7/10/2023 0 Comments F secure vpn reviewAs in the phishing test described below, some of F-Secure’s protective activity didn’t come with a notification-I had to review the timeline to distinguish actual browser errors from those caused by F-Secure’s protection. The addition of Browser Safety in the suite brought that score up to 94%. Real-time antivirus protection caught other downloads for a total blocking score of 91%. With the antivirus, web traffic scanning stripped out many malware downloads, leaving the browser displaying an error message. This suite includes Browser Safety, a feature not available in the standalone antivirus, which makes a difference in my malicious URL blocking test. Please refer to my review of the standalone antivirus for a detailed rundown of those shared features. Naturally, the suite includes all features of the antivirus. The standalone F-Secure Anti-Virus looks exactly like this suite, except that its main window only has one panel, Viruses & Threats. When the icon goes red, a red panel depicting a scary rider and horse appears, with advice on fixing the problem, and the cartoon couple in the background point to it in alarm. That’s a feature common to most antivirus products, but F-Secure takes it a step beyond. That green status icon turns red if there’s a problem with your security configuration. The main window uses a responsive design, allowing the three panels to move and resize as needed, from a horizontal row of three in a wide window to a three-high vertical stack when it’s narrow. There’s a list of recent events to the right of the panels, with an option to click for the full timeline. A cartoon man and woman sit enjoying their devices below a security status icon, a green checkmark when all is well.į-Secure still presents three rectangular panels: People & Devices Viruses & Threats and Secure Browsing & Banking. In the current version, that background is a stylized hilly landscape with clouds and a few trees. For more than ten years, F-Secure’s main window has been a simple collection of rectangular panels with varying shades of green and blue on a white background. Speaking of the current scheme of things, F-Secure Safe has had a user interface makeover that leaves it looking completely different from any previous version. You can still log in to My F-Secure to download protection for a new device, but in the current scheme of things, it’s less important than it once was. After that, you can add more devices from within the main program by sending a link via email or text. Getting Started With F-Secure Safeįor your first F-Secure installation, you’ll create a My F-Secure account online, register your purchase, and download the product. The thing is, F-Secure Identity Protection alone starts at $59.99 per year, and Freedome ranges from $54.99 to $89.99 per year. Depending on your needs, F-Secure Total may be a better deal than F-Secure Safe, despite prices running from $89.99 per year for three licenses to $299.99 for 25. This bundle includes the F-Secure Safe suite reviewed here, as well as F-Secure Identity Protection (which is a password manager at heart) and F-Secure's Freedome VPN. If you're devoted to F-Secure's products, you may want to consider F-Secure Total. A $159.99 per year McAfee subscription lets you install protection on every device in your household, whether it runs Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, or even ChromeOS. However, if you need that many licenses, you should probably look at McAfee Total Protection instead. At F-Secure’s 10-license level you pay $129.99 per year, $30 more than 10 licenses for top-level suites from Total Defense, Kaspersky, and Editors’ Choice winner Bitdefender. Need to protect more devices? The main product page shows pricing for three, five, or seven licenses, but if you click for full details, you’ll see that you can subscribe for 10, 15, 20, or 25 devices. Bitdefender Total Security and Trend Micro Maximum Security cost about the same for five licenses, but these two are upper-tier suites. At $89.99 for five licenses, F-Secure Safe is on par with ESET Internet Security, ESET’s entry-level suite. However, for a cross-platform suite, a five-device subscription is a better match for many users. This product's pricing starts at $69.99 per year for three licenses. Dropping it makes sense, given that its pricing was the same as the more powerful F-Secure Safe. F-Secure dropped the entry-level suite for new installations, though existing users can keep it. In years past, the F-Secure product line included a standalone antivirus, an entry-level suite called F-Secure Internet Security, and the cross-platform suite F-Secure Safe, reviewed here.
